Responsibilities

Our newest opportunity is for a talented Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our ground engineering team based in either Porto or Lisbon in Portugal.

 

This critical role will work as part of the Infrastructure team, developing geotechnical design of new and existing civil structures.

 

We envisage success in this role to include;

 

  • Provide a mix of technical design delivery, project management and construction supervision.
  • Oversee geotechnical aspects of construction, including slope stabilization, earthworks, shoring works, ground investigations, ground improvement e.t.c
  • Experienced in earthworks, enabling works, geotechnical surveys, topographic surveys, geophysical surveys.
  • Provide on-site technical guidance and ensure compliance with design specifications and project requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, assessments, and reporting to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and clients to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Knowledge and ability to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction specifications.
  • Setting-up geotechnical investigation (GI) specifications including drawings and bill of quantities.
  • Preparing geotechnical designs of new and existing civil structures, such as, retaining walls, culverts, bridges foundations, shallow foundations, piled foundation, shoring structures, etc., following project’s scope.
  • Preparing feasibility studies, geotechnical reports and interpretative geotechnical reports and other geotechnical related deliverables.
  • Evaluating field and laboratory tests and providing recommendations on the most suitable method to assess materials.
  • Advising appropriate Ground Improvement Methods like RIC, Dynamic Compaction, Stone Column, etc.
  • Coordinating and giving technical guidance to CAD Technicians to produce drawings.
  • Monitoring the technical quality of the projects to ensure that the projects delivered to Clients are of the highest technical quality and engineering practice standard.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines to achieve a fully integrated design.
  • Liaising with the Client and Authority representatives to obtain design approvals, as necessary.
  • Providing discipline’s input for technical proposals for submission to external parties.

Qualifications

To be successful in this dynamic opportunity, we envision that your career journey to date will include a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with preference in the specialized field of Geotechnics and more than 10 years of experience in a similar position. Having a membership of a professional institution is desirable.

 

You will have a demonstrated experience in preparing a wide range of geotechnical designs along with the following skills:

 

  • Experience in international projects such as Middle East in an advantage. 
  • Proficiency in software such as Autodesk AutoCAD and MS Office. 
  • Experience in Geotechnical software in market to use as tools in Geotechnical Engineering works, such as Plaxis, or similar. 
  • Good knowledge of relevant design codes such as AASHTO LRFD, British Standard (DMRB), Eurocodes and GCC Standards.  
  • Experience in BIM and AutoCAD Civil 3D is an advantage. 
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English.
